Just posted: our review of Sigma’s SD1 Merrill, the company’s flagship 15MPx3 DSLR. The SD1 is the first camera to use the latest APS-C Foveon sensor, which detects three-color data at each location, giving what Sigma says is resolution equivalent to a 30MP conventional Bayer design. We’ve used both an original SD1 and SD1 Merrill, which are identical in terms of function and output, and the review reflects the behavior of the latest firmware for each. So does the no live view, no video SD1 deliver enough to carve out its own niche? . . . → Read More: Just Posted: Sigma SD1 / SD1 Merrill review

Facebook has added high resolution photos and full screen photo viewing. From today, the photo viewer will show the highest resolution image available, rather than offering a download link for higher-res images (up to 2048 pixels along each edge). An option to expand the photo to fullscreen has also been added. The changes also include adding a simplified version of the sRGB color profile to each image, increasing its chances of displaying color correctly. . . . → Read More: Facebook adds higher resolution photo viewing

Just Posted: Although it retains its predecessor’s styling, the Olympus PEN E-P3 shares very little else with its forebears. There’s still a 12MP Four Thirds-sized sensor at its heart, but its autofocus, rear screen and movie capabilities have all been radically overhauled. Crucially, Olympus has also managed to squeeze a flash into the body. Now sitting at the top of a three-model range, the E-P3 is clearly positioned as a camera for enthusiasts. So, do its third-generation refinements and promises of world-beating AF performance make the E-P3 into the camera that the PEN series always promised to be? . . . → Read More: Just posted: Our in-depth review of the Olympus E-P3

Just posted! Our hands-on preview of Sigma’s flagship SD1 DSLR. Image on top: The Panasonic G2 which should be replaced by the new G3. I just received info from a few of my sources. Due the recent energy supply problems in Japan Panasonic had to delay the announcement of some of their upcoming products. The new Panasonic Micro Four Thirds camera and lenses will be announced in May (and not in April as I told you before). UPDATE : Other companies have been hit very hard by the earthquake desaster. According to Bloomberg “ Canon earnings this year will probably be 27 percent lower than previously estimated after last month’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan “. And Sony had to delete the lates product announcements! Than Panasonic should announce a new Micro Four Thirds camera, the G3. The Panasonic G10 has already been discontinued, the G2 price lowered to make room for the new G3. There will be also a new Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 lens. It is not Leica branded, has no image stabilization and unlike the famous Four Thirds brother it is not Leica branded. It should cost around $700. That’s more than just a rumor because Panasonic UK product manager John Mitchell confirmed that the 25mm lens is coming this summer: “ We are sure it’s going to be a great hit because it’s 50mm [35mm viewing angle] equivalent – really fast, really bright ” (Source: Amateur Photographer ). Oh forgot to mention: It has double the size of the current 20mm f/1.7 pancake . Is there room for some surprise? Let’s hope yes! Links: The Panasonic G2 price dropped during the recent months at Amazon , Adorama , B&H , J&R , eBay . The Panasonic G10 already disappeared from most stores (See Amazon , Adorama , B&H , J&R , eBay ) The current 25mm f/1.4 Four Thirds lens at Amazon , Adorama , B&H , J&R , eBay .
