Tonight a new anonymous source sent me a “rumor” claiming to know that Olympus will announce a 50mm f/1.4 and a fast 12mm wide angle Micro Four Thirds lens by end of May. I repeat, that info is from a new and anonymous source…take it with a grain of salt! If that rumor turns out to be true than both lenses will be faster than the Panasonic 45mm f/2.8 and the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 lenses. I hope some of my trusted sources can confirm or deny the rumor during the next hours. Thanks! According to PhotoRadar “ Olympus plans to release a high-performance PEN camera with touchscreen technology – possibly the PEN Pro reported earlier this month – as well as a mid-range PEN camera with a tilt screen and a PEN camera with flash in the original PEN EP-1 design . ” and they “ were told we can expect an announcement of the mid-range PEN camera possibly as soon as April. ” You already know that our sources told us there will be no(!) new PEN camera in April. We expect an Olympus announcement by end of May/early June. We are sure there will be new m43 lenses and there is also a fair chance to see he new E-P2 successor . That’s why I post the rumor with a low FT2 value. Be warned! I got some rumors about the future cameras and lenses and I am working on it. What I can say now is that there will be many new interesting Olympus products. More about that soon on 43rumors! Your old accessories don’t fit the new camera. Lucky for you, more and more Micro Four Thirds accessories are coming out every day. Gary Fong has launched a new addition to the Puffer Pop-Up Flash Diffuser line. It’s called, as if you couldn’t have guessed, the Micro Four Thirds Puffer. Gary Fong, CEO of the company, says that the diffuser is an essential tool for Micro Four Thirds users, who are otherwise facing the problem of a flash too powerful for their needs. “Finding a solution for these over-powered flashes,” he says, “is a requirement for any shooter looking to control the light like a pro.” For more information on Gary’s Puffer diffuser line, visit the Gary Fong website . It’s a 15 page long detailed article and that’s the conclusion: “ The Olympus XZ-1 is a spectacular addition to the high-end compact camera family. We’re happy to see Olympus re-entering this market, especially with this 11-megapixel sensor and gorgeous new Zuiko lens. The hardware lets the camera churn out great photos, despite having such a portable form factor. For manual control enthusiasts, the XZ-1 has even more to offer: a slick control ring around the lens, full manual exposure options, and an accessory port that you can use for Olympus’ optional EVF. Most cameras in this price range have at least one weakness, but we’re not really sure what the XZ-1’s weakness is. ” The XZ-1 is not a Micro Four Thirds camera but it shows us that Olympus can make very good cameras. I do hope the next PEN cameras will be at least as successful as the XZ-1. The essential absence of corner shading / vignetting at all focal lengths is impressive, and the close-up performance is also surprisingly good for a lens this wide. All is not rosy though, with chromatic aberrations in particular being too high, even by ultra-wide standards .” Click here to read what our readers think about the lens. Lori Grunin from CNET (Click here) testet the Olympus 9-18mm lens: “ A great interchangeable-lens model if you’re looking for better photo quality and/or a more advanced feature set than your current point-and-shoot offers, the Olympus PEN E-PL2 still doesn’t satisfy for photographing active kids and pets. ” Click here to read what our readers think about that lens. Neocamera (Click here) posted a short Panasonic GH2 review: “ The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 is a full-featured Micro Four-Thirds SLD which delivers good image quality and a generally solid performance. Image quality is characterized by low noise, good retention of details, excellent metering and nice colors. White-balance performance is the main weakness of the GH2, although the custom white-balance feature gets around this with some discipline. The camera is quite responsive and stands out by its relatively fast contrast-detect autofocus system .” Click here to read what our readers think about the GH2.
