Fujifilm Resumes X100 Production

Thumbnail

The already difficult to find Fujifilm X100 was delayed even further due to the tragic earthquake that affected so much of Japan. Fujifilm’s plant wasn’t destroyed, but was damaged to the point that production had to be stopped. Today the folks at Fujifilm announced that they’re back up and running and the X100 is back in production. Japanese retailers are expected to start getting the X100 in early April. There’s no word yet on shipments to the US. (via DP Review ) . . . → Read More: Fujifilm Resumes X100 Production

Dpreview posts the Panasonic GH2 in depth review (+in Stock at Adorama)

Hurry! Read the whole Panasonic GH2 review at Dpreview (Click here) : “ The GH2 might not be a revolutionary development (in all essential points it is very closely related to its predecessor, the GH1) but we’re confident in saying that it is the best mirrorless system camera that we’ve ever tested, bar none. With the GH2 Panasonic has finally demonstrated that it is able to compete with the APS-C format competition when it comes both to resolution and critical image quality. Although the GH2′s Micro Four Thirds sensor is smaller than those found in cameras like the Canon EOS 60D and Nikon D7000, it runs them both pretty close. Up to ISO 3200 in fact, we’d stick our necks out and say that the GH2 can hold its own against any of the current crop of APS-C format cameras on the market, which is high praise indeed. ” The GH2 earned an overall score of 79% (which is pretty high!). It has the highest movie quality of all cameras ever tested on Dpreview. Only the Nikon D7000 has one little point more (80%). You can get the Panasonic GH2 at Amazon , Adorama , B&H , J&R , eBay (Just click on shop name to directly visit the GH2 page). New Voigtländer Nokton and Panasonic GF2/GH2/14mm reviews.

Partial Solar Eclipse (GH2 + Voigtländer 0.95) from Seb Farges on Vimeo . SLRclub (Click here) posted a very detailed Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 review. There is only one little issue…everything has been written in Korean and posted as an image (which google translate cannot translate). But at least you can take a look to all images, videos and graph. You can also read the 43rumors readers review of the Nokton lens at http://www.43rumors.com/cameras/voigtlander-nokton-25mm-f0-95/#submitownreview . And if you want to buy the lens than you have to look for current auctions on eBay (Click here) . It’s the only place were you can be sure to find some lenses. Digitalcamera-hq (Click here) tested the Panasonic GF2: “ While the GF2 may be a disappointment to a small, specific subset of enthusiasts (who also happen to be the most vocal commenters on the Internet), the majority will find it to be a full-featured, intuitive, and very useful photographic tool. In most senses it improves on the GF1, with a newer and more sensitive imaging sensor, higher-spec video recording, and reduced size and weight. It produces great stills and video — certainly on par with all but the highest-end Micro Four Thirds cameras and close to equaling the output of previous-generation APS-C dSLRs . Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 pancake lens review at EosHD (Click here) : “ The 14mm pancake is highly recommended. It continues Panasonic’s approach to quality kit lenses, and I’ve enjoyed all of Panasonic’s Micro Four Thirds optics so far, apart from the rather high price of the fisheye, ultra wide and 100-300mm, and the slightly soft 55-200mm. But quality wise they’re mostly absolutely superb. Build too, although the rubber grip on the zoom ring of the 14-140mm had a pathetic habit of falling off after 3 months. ” Read the 43rumors readers reviews and ratings at http://www.43rumors.com/cameras/panasonic-14mm-f2-5/#submitownreview . High Demand May Delay the Fujifilm X100

Thumbnail

Fujifilm’s X100 is one hot item thanks to its incredible quality and rangefinder design. It’s in such high demand in fact, that there may be a delay on when the camera is made available to the US. Fujifilm has put out a notice (in Japanese) that states that not only the camera, but the leather case and lens hood are all selling faster than the company can make them. They’ll be ramping up production as quickly as possible, but a delay is inevitable. Right now it looks like we can expect the camera to hit US shores in late March or early April, but there’s no official date as of yet. Meanwhile Entincingthelight explains you why the X100 is NOT to expensive: “ I think I’ve shown that the X100 is not the expensive proposition many are making it out to be. For the photographer who wants a well-built, relatively compact, externally simple digital camera with physical dials, and for whom a fast wideangle lens covers most of his/her needs, the X100 is almost cheap , especially if you consider this photographer will probably use the camera for many years before replacing it. ” P.S.: In USA the camera will start shipping on March 7 (Source: Dpreview forum ). Reviews DPreview added the studio comparison samples which usually means that they will soon publish the final GH2 review. Have fun by comparing the GH2 results with other cameras. Dpreview also added GF1 downloadeable raw files for all ISOs, for comparison against the GF2. Digitalcamerareview tested the Panasonic GH2: “ The Panasonic GH2 surpasses the quality and performance of a point-and-shoot and just about every entry-level DSLR on the market. A high quality – though not perfect – kit lens, and an excellent 16 megapixel sensor and processing engine help the GH2 succeed. There’s a touchscreen for those who want it and a familiar array of controls for those who don’t. Right now, it’s safe to say that there’s nothing else like it. ” The final rating is 4.5/5 points. A short GH2 test at Outbackphoto . Black GH2 finally in US The GH2 is still out of Stock in all US online stores. In those months we only saw a few Silver GH2 in Stock here and there. There is a new full E-PL2 review at Cameralabs (Click here) : “ On the surface, the differences between the E-PL1 and E-PL2 may not look extensive, but they make a big difference in both handling and performance. The rear control dial makes the E-PL2 a much more comfortable camera to use in manual exposure modes while the change to the ISO sensitivity range combined, we suspect, with some tweaking of the image processing, has resulted in improved image quality .”…” the broad appeal of the PEN E-PL2 and the excellent quality results it’s capable of producing look set to make it one of the most successful Micro Four Thirds cameras yet .” The E-PL2 gets an Overall score of 83%. Thumbnail

DPreview posted a few Fuji X100 image samples. Reminder: The camera should be in Stock by early MArch. Preorders at: Amazon , Adorama , BHphoto CNET Australia tested the Olympus E-5: “ The E-5 presents a good upgrade path for those amateur and professional photographers working with the Olympus Four Thirds system. It doesn’t provide enough to lure potential buyers from competing brands though .” Also Macworld tested the camera: “ What we particularly like about Olympus E-system cameras are the Art Filter digital effects filters and 10 have been shoehorned in here, including our favourites of pop art, pinhole and toy town-effect diorama. Further tweaks include a TruePic V+ image-processing engine that Olympus claims provides enhanced detail over cameras with physically larger sensors. Certainly the E-5, when used with our test lens, delivered bags of detail despite the low-ish headline resolution. ” Olympus E-5 direct links at Amazon . . . . → Read More: New Fuji X100 image samples at DPreview and new Olympus E-5 tests
